Medicines information for an informed discussion.
Balanced adult patient-information draft with formulation-specific UK medicine facts, selected precautions and regulated product-information links.
Factual adult patient information about medicines that may be considered only after an appropriate clinical consultation. A consultation may instead lead to advice, further assessment, non-medicine support or referral; a prescription is not an expected or guaranteed outcome.
Clinical-review draft · information checked 10 October 2026. This is not a medicine offer, product-selection service or confirmation that Willoway supplies any of these options. Do not use this page as a promotional advertising landing page. It is deliberately separate from the consultation page and is not indexed for search.
These summaries contain selected facts and risks, not complete product information or prescribing advice. The same active ingredient can have different authorised brands, formulations and indications. Your prescriber must use the current UK product information and assess your circumstances, other medicines and alternatives; do not start, stop, switch or adjust a medicine using this page.
This adult information page does not establish a service for children. The summaries are not complete safety information and none confirms Willoway availability.
Semaglutide injection — Wegovy
Wegovy is a prescription semaglutide injection with a UK-authorised weight-management indication. For eligible adults it is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. This does not establish the same indication for other semaglutide brands or unverified products.
How it works
Semaglutide activates the GLP-1 receptor, one of the signals involved in appetite regulation. It can affect hunger, fullness and food intake. Sharing an active ingredient does not make different brands, strengths or formulations interchangeable.
The adult indication includes obesity, or overweight with at least one weight-related health condition, subject to the full product criteria. A BMI figure alone does not determine suitability.
Selected risks and precautions
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation are common; vomiting or diarrhoea may lead to dehydration, particularly relevant with kidney problems.
- Pancreatitis and a very rare serious eye condition are important warnings. Persistent severe abdominal pain or sudden/worsening vision requires medical assessment.
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding, plans for pregnancy and use with insulin or a sulfonylurea require discussion against the current leaflet; low blood sugar can be more likely with those diabetes medicines.
Tirzepatide — Mounjaro KwikPen
Mounjaro KwikPen is a UK-authorised prescription tirzepatide formulation with an adult weight-management indication, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. It is not intended for cosmetic weight loss and is not suitable for everyone.
How it works
Tirzepatide acts on both GLP-1 and GIP receptors. These signals are involved in appetite and metabolic regulation; the medicine can affect hunger, fullness and food intake. This dual action does not make it the appropriate choice for every person.
The adult indication includes obesity, or overweight with a weight-related health condition, subject to product criteria and individual assessment. Authorisation of this formulation is not approval of every product containing tirzepatide.
Selected risks and precautions
- Nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea can cause dehydration; serious or severe symptoms need clinical review.
- Pancreatitis has been reported, including serious cases. Severe persistent abdominal pain needs urgent assessment.
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding and contraception require specific discussion. Oral contraceptive effectiveness can be affected; a prescriber should explain the current product precautions. Delayed stomach emptying also matters before surgery or deep sedation.
Oral semaglutide — Wegovy tablets
The UK-authorised Wegovy tablet formulation contains semaglutide and has an adult weight-loss and weight-maintenance indication. It is prescription-only and used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. This status should not be inferred from a different tablet brand or a diabetes-only indication.
How it works
Semaglutide activates the GLP-1 receptor, one of the signals involved in appetite regulation. It can affect hunger, fullness and food intake. Sharing an active ingredient does not make different brands, strengths or formulations interchangeable.
The MHRA authorised this weight-management tablet formulation in June 2026 for eligible adults with obesity, or overweight with a weight-related health problem. Authorisation does not establish clinic supply or NHS availability.
Selected risks and precautions
- Gastrointestinal effects, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation, can occur; dehydration can be particularly concerning with kidney problems.
- Severe persistent abdominal pain may indicate pancreatitis and requires urgent medical assessment.
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding and delayed stomach emptying need discussion with a clinician. Tell the anaesthesia team about the medicine before surgery.
Orforglipron tablets — Foundayo
Foundayo film-coated tablets contain orforglipron. The MHRA authorised this prescription formulation in August 2026 for adult weight management, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. It has a separate diabetes indication; the two uses should not be conflated.
How it works
Orforglipron is a non-peptide medicine that activates the GLP-1 receptor. Its effect on food intake is thought to involve appetite regulation. It is a different active ingredient from semaglutide and is not an equivalent product or a self-directed substitute.
The weight-management indication covers eligible adults with obesity, or overweight with at least one weight-related health condition. A clinician must assess appropriateness; this is not confirmation of Willoway availability.
Selected risks and precautions
- Gastrointestinal effects are very common and vomiting or diarrhoea can cause dehydration and contribute to kidney problems.
- Pancreatitis, gallbladder problems and bowel obstruction are among the important warnings. Low blood sugar can be more likely with insulin or a sulfonylurea.
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding, oral hormonal contraception and planned anaesthesia require discussion against current product information. The product is subject to additional safety monitoring.
Semaglutide 7.2 mg — Wegovy
The UK-authorised 7.2 mg Wegovy option is distinct from the lower-dose semaglutide formulations. It has an adult obesity weight-management authorisation; its higher strength does not mean it is a better or appropriate choice for any particular person.
How it works
Semaglutide activates the GLP-1 receptor, one of the signals involved in appetite regulation. It can affect hunger, fullness and food intake. Sharing an active ingredient does not make different brands, strengths or formulations interchangeable.
The 7.2 mg weight-management authorisation is limited to adults with obesity (BMI at least 30 kg/m²). It does not extend this option to the overweight BMI group covered by some lower-dose formulations, nor to the separate cardiovascular-risk indication. Individual prescribing criteria still apply.
Selected risks and precautions
- Nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea can cause dehydration; kidney problems are an important consideration.
- Persistent severe abdominal pain may indicate pancreatitis. Sudden or worsening eyesight may indicate a very rare serious eye condition and requires urgent medical contact.
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding, other medicines and low-blood-sugar risk with insulin or sulfonylureas require review. Read the formulation-specific leaflet rather than assuming every semaglutide product is interchangeable.
When to get medical help
Severe, persistent abdominal pain needs urgent medical assessment because it may indicate pancreatitis. Persistent vomiting, inability to keep fluids down, marked dehydration or sudden/worsening eyesight also need prompt clinical advice. A suspected serious allergic reaction or life-threatening emergency requires 999. Tell your healthcare team about any prescribed medicine before surgery or sedation.
